As genetic and genomic testing is being mainstreamed there is an increasing requirement for non-specialist clinicians to explain the results of these tests to patients. A recent collaboration between the East of England Genomic Medicine Centre and the University of Cambridge led to the development of a report template that could be adapted to specific uses. As primary care physicians in this region are now receiving and responsible for communicating results on cystic fibrosis carrier testing preliminary findings have just been published on the benefits and limits of using such a report for this test. The resulting reports are now being implemented in clinical care.
Dr Gabriel Recchia has now embarked on a similar project and is calling on healthcare professionals for help.
“Our new project is creating patient and clinician-friendly report templates for diagnostic and predictive BRCA testing, and we would love to hear from healthcare professionals interested in providing feedback on what we have come up with so far. If you would be interested in learning more, please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.”
