Cystic Fibrosis GP Carrier Testing
Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is a genetic condition that causes sticky mucus to build up in the lungs and digestive system. This causes lung infections and problems with digesting food. There is no cure for CF, and although treatments are available to make the condition easier to live with, sadly in severe cases, life expectancy is shortened.
The East Genomics Laboratory Hub delivers two types of testing for cystic fibrosis:
carrier testing and diagnostic testing.
GP Carrier Testing for Cystic Fibrosis
In the East of England, carrier testing for cystic fibrosis can be provided by GPs.
Tools for GPs: Please see the Testing Flowchart for GPs and use the East GLH Rare and Inherited Disease Referral Form to request carrier testing.
For GP queries about cystic fibrosis carrier testing, please contact the East Anglian Medical Genetics Service on 01223 216446.
