- If you are ordering a new test, or awaiting a result, please read our update below, as we are currently (June 2021) experiencing some delays to test results.
Genomic testing is being delivered according to the National Genomic Test Directories for Rare and Inherited Disease. Please use the Test Directory to identify the most appropriate test for your patient and add this information to the test referral form.

Record of Discussion forms
An appropriate discussion of genomic testing and the possible implications for a patient and their family members must take place prior to testing. A record of this discussion must be retained within the patient record when a genomic test is ordered.

June 2021 – important update regarding Genomic Tests
Over the last few weeks and months the East Genomic Laboratory Hub (East GLH) has seen a significant increase in the number of genomic tests for both rare disease and cancer ordered for a number of reasons.
Unfortunately this, coupled with our ability to finally process certain samples which had previously been put on hold during the COVID pandemic, is significantly affecting our usual turn-around times for the despatch of results. This delay is greatest for certain rare disease tests.
We apologise for the inconvenience and potential distress the delay of results may cause for patients and staff though we are asking all staff to please bear these delays in mind before chasing up any results; we will despatch results as soon as possible.
We are doing all we can to catch up with the backlog and get back to the national desired turn-around times, however, due to the size of the backlog this will take several months.
Many thanks for your patience.
